justice or revenge?

remember that our justice system killed two men last night.

“The death penalty is an injustice no matter who is being killed. I have no interest in the race to the bottom to see who is less deserving to be murdered by the state. But yes, Davis had reasonable doubt on his side, but not even that could save him. The only way to end what happen to Davis is to end what happened to Brewer as well.”

a response to comments on this well-written post, by david r. henson, reflecting on the executions of troy davis and lawrence brewer.

i’ve struggled for words and feelings over the past week, but this struck me. and though i wouldn’t describe myself as religious, and this blogger is deeply so, this post was more about humanity than religion.

views on this subject are inherently emotional and personal. i respect differences of opinion, but hope for more civility as this discussion continues. i have had the families of all involved in these tragic events on my mind and will continue to do so for some time.
